Training 2006 - 2007 / 1st year

Sunday 24 September 2006
Family day
At this day, first year students and their family and friends get to know each other, get acquainted with the year teacher and the people connected with the School of Shamanism. The second, third and fourth year students and their family and friends will be present too.

Course 1 • 27 – 29 October 2006
The roots of our existence
During the first weekend, you start looking for the roots of your existence. What do these roots mean to you? Where are they and how do you get into contact with them? Through myths and rituals it is possible to reconnect with your descent. This is also about your place in community or group. What is your specific place in this community? By means of a sweat lodge ceremony, under the supervision of Taco Blom, you undergo a spiritual and physical purification ritual. During the ceremony, you pray for (you direct your attention to) yourself, your family, your friends, mother earth, and the world.
Teachers: Mientje van Dreumel and Taco Blom

Course 2 • 8 – 10 December 2006
The language of oracles and signs
In this weekend, you will connect to the deeper, unconscious wisdom and knowledge of yourself and your ancestors. Reading of oracles and signs brings you closer to the essence of your existence and your connection with the entire creation. Our ancestors could not think of themselves as separate from the creation as a whole, and therefore were looking for answers to their questions in their dreams, by trance journeys and in nature surrounding them. The language of oracles and signs is the language of symbols, bridging your daily existence with the deeper layers of your consciousness.
Teacher: Elisabeth Bergsma

Course 3 • 19 – 21 January 2007
Sound and Healing
This weekend, we are quietly going to explore our personal, actual connection with sound. We receive information about the workings, the background and the effects of sound bowls, gongs, Tingsha’s, rain sticks, drums and the voice. We are going to hear, see, feel and experience different sounds. Because they fill the space in and around you, the borders between “inside and outside” may fade away, just like the borders between the “upper consciousness, “daily consciousness”, and “sub consciousness” contact one an other. Thus, those worlds (which are usually experienced as separate) may contact one another. We can experience surprising beautiful colours or forms, associations, feelings and thoughts. Also, your themes can turn up symbolized, just like Shaman things as power animals from the Upper, Middle or Lower world. During a sound bowl session, disturbing thought processes and defence mechanisms are temporarily less strong. Therefore, it is possible to get other insights and make other connections.
Teacher: Christina de Kaste

Course 4 • 23 – 25 February 2007
The search for Avalon
Shamanism is part of our own cultural roots and traditions. This weekend, you get acquainted with that. It is possible to discover yourself with the help of the mystical archetypes from the King Arthur legend. For many of us, there will be a moment that we long for doing what we always have wanted to do: long for the real thing and the following of your heart. As soon as you have decided to look for your “inner” grail, you have stepped over the threshold. You have set out on a journey in a mythological landscape and you meet “magic”. This journey is the central focus of this weekend, in which Celtic rituals and visualisations are integrated as well.
Teachers: Ishi Crosby and Sarah Crosby-van der Zee

Course 5 • 23 – 25 March 2007
When there is a longing in the Soul
This weekend, Frans (co-founder of the School) and Annika Scheerder-Zilliacus will take you on a journey to the soul. For them, the spiritual path is the driving force in life for the unfurling of the individual and for the development of the world. In their view, interactions between human beings among themselves and between human beings and nature have much in common with an iceberg: most of it is under the surface. Frans and Annika link modern and traditional science in their Quest.
In the world of the Shaman, making a soul journey within a healing ritual is one of the ways to heal someone. In a soul journey, the Shaman is going to travel on behalf of someone else, in order to retrieve a part of his or her soul in the spiritual, transpersonal dimension. Most of the time, traumatic experiences have been the cause of the splintering of the soul. In that soul journey, the Shaman relies on the ones doing the drumming and who, in doing so, retain the link with everyday life. Together with his or her power animals and spirits, which are helping the Shaman on this journey, the quest begins. Apart from this journey, the mythology of yourself, your family and the community will also be an item this weekend. This mythology may connect earthly things with the spiritual and thereby be a door to your soul. (Weekend together with second-year students).
Teachers: Frans Scheerder-Zilliacus and Annika Zilliacus-Scheerder

Course 6 • 27 – 29 April 2007
Sumber Tenaga (source of p1ower)
This weekend Richard MD Arzad will teach you. He is a healer, medium and teacher. Sumber Tenaga is a healing technique developed by Richard. In this technique, there is a lot of attention for grounding, breathing and working with energies, among other things by means of dancing. If you have completed these phases and exercises, healing can be given by blowing in and/or laying on of hands.
Teacher: Richard MD Arzad

Course 7 • 18 – 20 May 2007
The power of herbs
Since primeval times, people have supported their health and wellbeing with healing herbs. They are still growing everywhere around us. This weekend, you go back to your roots and you experience the power of herbs on all sorts of levels. You get to know the herbs in their natural surroundings and you hear the stories that are being told for many centuries already. We are also laying a base for working with herbs with respect and intuition. Next to that, every herb has its own working, nature and emanation, which we are going deeper into.
Teacher: Saskia Nieboer

Course 8 • 7 – 10 June 2007
Practising Days Contemporary Festival
During the annual Contemporary Festival in Vierhouten, the second-year students are doing workshops. In this, they will be assisted by first-year students. More information about this will be given in the course of the school-year.
See www.eigentijdsfestival.nl

Course 9 • 6 – 8 July 2007
Medicine walk and completion ceremony
At the end of the year, we look back and thank for all that we have harvested. Saturday is entirely devoted to meeting yourself. This meeting takes place during a medicine walk, starting Saturday morning or afternoon. There are also final interviews in which you can express what you have gained that year. On Sunday, we close the school-year with a ceremony in the presence of all students. This day, the certificates are being handed out. Family and friends are most welcome to be there.
Teacher: Mientje van Dreumel

Training 2006 - 2007 / 2nd year

Sunday 24 September 2006
Family day

Course 1 • 27 – 29 October 2006
The fire of connection
The way to the South goes via the element of fire. In this first weekend, we are going to connect to this element by the fire walk. Fire is burning in all of us. It is the passion for life and the passion of your love. Fire transforms and can destroy. Fire is found in the clouds and rising from the depths of the earth. And just like life will give you an explanation for everything that changes slowly and steadily, so fire will explain everything that changes quickly. This weekend you will get to know these forces, but also your own fire: through the holy fire of the fire walk.
Teacher: Jos Kester

Course 2 • 8 – 10 December 2006
The Power of rituals
A creative and personal weekend, inspired by her new book: “Rituelen bij mijlpalen in het leven” (Rituals for milestones in life). Next to inspiration from Indian and Celtic origins, you are going to experience the power of contemporary rituals this weekend. In a guided trance journey we will experience a healing ritual. In the old days, the Shaman or the priest was our medium on the occasion of marriage, birth, or a funeral. Now we learn how to form our own rituals with our heart and soul and to open our own energy channel. Your jubilee, birthday, relation connection or the baptism of a child in nature will become unforgettable by means of a ritual. And rituals you have missed while growing up, like to become really a man or a woman, still have a strong effect when you do them now. If you admit rituals into your life, you will realize there is a holy layer hidden beneath the ordinary. A feeling of connection and the power of love will come into being by means of rituals, between men and nature, between heaven and earth, and thát makes life meaningful.
Teacher: Roelien de Lange

Course 3 • 19 – 21 January 2007
Peacemaker
The peacemaker was an Indian Prophet and the founder of the Haudenosaunee Confederation; a successful example of a harmonious and dynamic society. In an area where there had been war already for a long time, the Peacemaker and his co-workers were able to found a long term peace. In this weekend, we invite you to experience this inspiring story for yourself and to fit into our present life the message and lessons of the peacemaker. The Peacemaker training consists of many powerful techniques and exercises to remove obstacles for inner and outer peace and also of a series of special ceremonies. We work with the group process, the solving of conflicts and the balance between male and female energies.
Teachers: Ishi Crosby and Sarah Crosby-van der Zee

Course 4 • 23 – 25 February 2007
Ancestral family constellation
Behind every human being there is a big family stretching into many generations. Many of our convictions have their origin in these family ties. The influence of these ties reveals itself in the relation with ourselves and our environment. This weekend, connected to the spirits and the elements, we are going to make contact with the force that moves us, with the roots and the soul of our family. We are going to make visible, recognize and honour the forces that connect and distinguish us. Respectful to every member of the family , we are going to explore the natural order and restore it, where necessary, so that giving and taking gets into balance again. Everything that has been excluded will be included again, acknowledging the feelings rising with it. Ancestral family constellations aim at getting insight in and restoring the stream of life throughout the generations.
Teachers: Tineke ten Cate and Elisabeth Bergsma

Course 5 • 23 – 25 March 2007
When there is a longing in the Soul
Together with first year students, for text see the program of the first year students.
Teachers: Frans Scheerder-Zilliacus and Annika Zilliacus-Scheerder

Course 6 • 27 – 29 April 2007
MaleFemale-energy
Adam and Eve, the apple and the snake, attracting and rejecting, love and hate, eternal faithfulness or unfaithfulness, woman or mother, man or father......? These dualistic feelings have been occupying us people for a long time. In this weekend, we will try to make more clear your own role in this life as a man or a woman. You can experience what conscious or unconscious male and/or female power is hidden inside you and how you can balance these. Clarity and power we will find by switching parts: men will become women and women will become men. Separated from each other, you start to look for your inner man and inner woman. This search will bring you all sorts of things: insight in the role you fulfil in daily life, and therefore also feelings of sadness and pain, but certainly a lot of humour as well. On Saturday evening, you meet again and now you will really experience what it means to be the other sex.
Teachers: Jos Kester and Kassandra Fest

The courses of the first year are parallel to those of the second year.

The Foundation School of Shamanism may, if necessary, change parts of the program and the composition of the teachers.
